What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine addresses the whole person by shifting the traditional disease-centered focus to a more patient-centered approach. Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors and how those can influence long-term health and chronic diseases.
A Functional Medicine practitioner is taught a very comprehensive approach to treatment. Modifiable lifestyle factors and clinical imbalances are examined through careful history taking, physical examination, and laboratory testing. Most imbalances in functionality found through the comprehensive approach can be addressed; some completely restored to optimum function and others can be substantially improved.
